The Lagos State Police Command paraded the two German shepherd dogs yesterday at its headquarters in Ikeja, Punch reports. Speaking about it, the Commissioner of Police, Cornelius Aderanti, said; "We have brought the dogs out so that the public would know that they are still in police custody. They have been examined and they show no negative trait. It is only the court that will decide what happens to them. The police cannot decide to kill the dogs.” Am I the only one who finds this weird? Anyway, the little victim, Omo, had asked that the dogs be killed but the police say it's up to the courts. Meanwhile the owner of the do...

Gov Rotimi Amaechi insults Nollywood practitioners to their faces, says they are products of circumstances

This would have been funny if it wasn't pathetic. Rotimi said these actors studied sciences, law, medicine etc but because they couldn't find jobs, they embraced Nollywood. Present when he said this were Nollywood veterans including Liz Benson, Kenneth Okonkwo, Shola Sobowale, Desmond Elliot, Moses Inwang, Dickson Iroegbu, Bob-manuel Udokwu, Patience Ozokwor, Elvis...

Again Jail Break, Same Reaction

HOW many prison breaks would it take to secure our prisons? Like in Akure in July 2013, where armed robbers let 175 criminals loose, while freeing their colleagues, last week’s incident in Kirikiri, Nigeria’s prime jail, Kirikiri would soon be history. Before Akure there have been jail breaks in Ibadan, Warri, Bauchi, Kano, Abuja (at the anti-robbery detention centre), and Port Harcourt. The reactions have always been the same – media talks, promises to address the situation, and forgetfulness until the next criminals free themselves. A jail break is at one of the highest points of criminality. Its consequences depend on the criminals involved and their motives. What all these point at is that the authorities have failed to realise the importance of securing convicts and detainees. There is still a high tendency of dismissing the schemes criminals can plot even while in jail. More importantly, the reactions after jail breaks had been to descend on the prison authorities. We are aware t...

Horn-Free-Day: Mixed feelings as Lagos moves to tackle noise pollution

Mixed feelings have continued to trail efforts of the Lagos State Government to tackle the menace of noise pollution in the metropolis, whose population is put at 21 million. While speaking last Thursday, at the First Lagos Drivers’ Appreciation Day, a programme organised by the state‘s Ministry of Transportation, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry House, Alausa, Ikeja, to sensitise drivers on the maiden horn-free day slated for tomorrow, the state governor, Babatunde Fashola called on residents, particularly, motorists to desist from activities capable of generating needless noise in the state, saying a noiseless society is possible. At the occasion, where no fewer than 25 distinguished professional drivers were rewarded for obeying traffic regulations, Fashola had affirmed that noise pollution can be reduced in the state, if residents collaborate with government just as they did in the containment of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD. As typical of various Lagos metropolis and subu...

Fantastic!! Fashola Declares October 15 Horn Free Day In Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Thursday explained the idea behind his administration’s initiative, “Horn Free Day” coming up on October 15, 2014, describing it as a step towards sensitizing residents to the harmful effects of noise pollution. Speaking at the State’s first “Lagos Drivers’ Appreciation Day” held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry House, Alausa, Ikeja, Governor Fashola said that the Horn Free Day was an initiative of his administration to persuade citizens that there is a better way to live than indulging in noise pollution which has been found to be harmful to their health. Re-enforcing the remarks of the Guest Lecturer who put the harmful noise level at 70 decibels and above, the Governor said that there was need to bring this figure down significantly because according to the global standard for measuring noise, “90 decibels is rather too high and harmful to human health”. “It is for our own good, it is for our own health, it is for our own ...

Military Arrests Soldiers Caught Leaking Secrets To Boko Haram

Boko Haram can not really thrive without inside help, hence the military need to be more vigilant. I heard they have arrested several soldiers, who were discovered to have leaked vital security information on the troops’ strategies and tactics to Boko Haram that led to a series of ambush and killing of over 30 Nigerian soldiers by the rag-tag terrorists in recent times. Sources say ,most of the arrested soldiers serve as orderlies or ADCs to Commanders of Troops on the field. Can you imagine that? “The situation became so bad that there was mutual suspicion among fellow commanders, the Brigade headquarters and even the Division headquarters. But at last, the moles were found out to be some of the orderlies and aides of Commanders. What they do is that after operational briefings and troops take off, these moles immediately pass on the information through calls.” According to Vanguard, the alleged moles among the soldiers leaked the information on the deployment of soldiers from Maimala...

Embattled Nollywood actress, Ini Edo, has been explaining to whoever cares to listen why she decided to walk out of her five-year old marriage unceremoniously. According to the actress, she demanded for a divorce from her ex-husband because of a lot of irreconcilable differences. Contrary to reports that, her ‘barren marriage’ crashed following allegations of infidelity levelled against her by her husband, Ini Edo refuted the allegation, saying that she never cheated her husband since they got married. In a tweet, confirming breaking up with her husband, Ini Edo alleged that “There is a conscious and malicious attempt at tarnishing my image. This saga is familiar, let’s not forget the past. Thanks and God bless.” Ini Edo got married to her US-based husband, Philip Ehiagwina, about five years. The couple who lived separately for most of their marriage life decided to formally split in early August. There were reports that Ini’s people have even returned the bride price paid by Philip in...
