CBN To Withdraw POS Operators License Over High Charges

POS operators in the state are collecting between N1000, N1500 and N2000 charges for every N5000 and N10,000 withdrawn by customers and N300 charges for every N1000. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has threatened to withdraw licenses of Point of Sale (PoS) agents found inflating charges on customers. CBN issued the threat on Tuesday. According to Daily Trust, POS operators in different states have been collecting between N1000, N1500 and N2000 charges for every N5000 and N10,000 withdrawn by customers and N300 charges for every N1000. Director, CBN Risk Management department, Blaise Ijebor, disclosed this yesterday while speaking with journalists on efforts of the apex bank and state government on ensuring the availability of cash in circulation. According to him, the approved charge for every N5,000 is N100 and anything done contrary to the approved charges by the agents due to the current cash crisis is tantamount to punishing their fellow citizens. A pregnant woman and a motorcyclist have been killed after a driver of a Pathfinder lost control of his wheels and rammed into them in Ughelli, Delta. Court Orders Remand Of EFCC Chairman, Bawa, In Kuje Prison The Kogi State High Court in Lokoja has ordered the immediate arrest and remand of Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in prison custody. Justice Rukayat Ayoola ruled that Bawa should be picked up and remanded in Kuje prison for disobeying a court order. Ayoola also directed the Inspector General of Police to ensure compliance because the EFCC boss committed contempt of court. The judge ruled that the EFCC Czar should be remanded for the next 14 days. In his ruling, the judge granted an application for Bawa to be remanded in prison because he disobeyed a court ruling delivered on November 30, 2022. The anti-corruption boss was directed to produce an applicant in a case, Ali Bello. Fashola: Naira Swap Policy Is Causing Pain, CBN Should Readjust It The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has advised the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to review its naira swap policy to reverse its negative impact on Nigerians. Fashola, who made a live appearance on Channels Television’s The 2023 Verdict on Monday, was reacting to the outcry over the widespread scarcity of the N200, N500, and N1,000 banknotes since they were unveiled on November 23, 2022. Naira Scarcity: Traders Reject Bank Transfer Petty traders in Kwara have said they do not accept bank transfers or transactions due to lack of bank accounts and network failures. Some of the traders told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Monday that they had no bank accounts to which money can be transferred.
