The Central Bank of Nigeria has re- introduced ATM charges for cash withdrawals made on other banks’ Automated Teller Machines. In a circular dated August 13rd 2014 and signed by the Director, Banking and Payment Systems Department, CBN, Mr. Dipo Fatokun , the re- introduced ATM deduction pegged at N65 per withdraw would take effect from September 1st 2014. The circular states that the first three withdrawals in the month of September on other banks ATM would be free but the charges would start counting from the fourth withdrawal. The Liberian Minister who approved late Patrick Sawyer's trip to Nigeria has angrily reacted after he was criticized for letting Sawyer, a staff of the Liberian government, leave Liberia for Nigeria despite Liberian health officials placing him on Ebola danger list. Deputy Finance Minister Sebastian Muah Omar told a Facebook user who asked him why he made such a decision that he does not owe him any explanation. He also said he wasn't late Sawyer's doctor to stop him from traveling. One of the minister's followers queried him, saying, “As his superior, if a man tells you his sister died from Ebola and he could have been exposed do you not think it is your duty to ask the hard questions or maybe you could have reported this to the health officials?... A doctor who attended to late Patrick Sawyer at the First Consultant Hospital has been confirmed positive with the Ebola virus. Speaking at a news conference today, the Nigerian Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu said the doctor is currently undergoing treatment at the quarantine centre in Lagos. Prof Onyebuchi revealed that some of the 169 secondary contacts of Sawyer were no longer under surveillance and had been released, having completed the 21 days of incubation period. The Minister also said the nurse who had escaped the quarantine center in Lagos and traveled to Enugu state has been returned back to Lagos with her husband in a special traveling ambulance. 'In Enugu yesterday, there were 21 secondary contacts with the nurse. But after investigations, there are only 6 secondary contacts now. The deputy Governor of Enugu state, Sunday Onyebuchi this morning August 13th slumped before the impeachment panel set up to investigate allegations of gross misconduct and unlawful rearing of chickens in his official residence leveled against him by the State House of Assembly. According to Vanguard, the Deputy governor arrived the panel sitting at about 9am in company of his wife Mrs Nneka Onyebuchi, his children as well as his legal team. One of the nurses who had previously had contact with the Liberian Ebola patient Patrick Sawyer, fled her quarantine center in Lagos and returned to her home in Enugu, exposing about 20 people who she came in contact with to the deadly virus. Information Minister Labaran Makuwho disclosed this said the nurse and the 20 others people who she came in contact with are all under surveillance in Enugu. In defense of her late husband, Mrs Decontee Sawyerr, widow of Late Patrick Sawyerr, the Liberian man who came into Nigeria with the deadly Ebola virus, has said her sick husband risked all to come to Nigeria because he believed so much in the health system here & wanted to be properly diagnosed and treated. She explained her thoughts on her facebook wall and also took a swipe at the Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who called out her late husband recently in a CNN interview. Professor Maurice Iwu said a plant commonly eaten in West Africa, popularly known as kola nut can cure the deadly Ebola virus as shown in its tracks during a laboratory tests. The Professor, who made the revelation while speaking at the 16th International Botanical Congress in St Louis in the United States of America, also disclosed that a compound taken from kola nut plant have also proved effective against some strains of flu. He stated that if the anti-Ebola compound proves successful in animal and human trials, it will be the first medicine to successfully treat the virus that causes Ebola haemorrhagic fever which is usually a fatal condition. Ghana has officially banned flights from 4 West African countries; Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Nigeria, citing concerns about the rapid spread of the Ebola virus, which has claimed several lives. The bus belonging to Enugu State Ministry of Transport is among the ones recently procured y the state government to boost urban transport scheme of the Sullivan Chime administration. Although there were no deaths, eyewitnesses said that many of the students and other passengers sustained serious injuries in the near stampede that resulted while escaping to safety through the widows and other exit available spaces in the bus.
