Man United's Jose Mourinho: Defensive Chelsea tough to catch

Manchester United manager Jose
Mourinho has told Sky Sports it will
be "very difficult" to catch Chelsea
this season as they are unlikely to
drop many points due to their
defensive tactics.
Mourinho once had a reputation for
playing defensive football but he
has instilled a more positive,
attacking style into United this
season.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have been
efficiently churning out clean sheets
in recent months -- including three
1-0 wins in a row in the Premier
League from their last three games
-- and are first in the table, 13
points clear of United.
When asked if sixth-placed United
can still push for the title, Mourinho
said:

"You have to be honest and
say that is very difficult. It's not just
the difference in points, it's also the
Chelsea philosophy of playing.

"They score one goal and they win.
They defend a lot. They defend well.
They are winning and, in the last 20
minutes, they bring defenders in.

"They don't care what people say,
what people think. They just want
to win. And, because of that, I don't
see them losing many points."
Mourinho also reflected on his
dismissal for kicking a water bottle
during the 1-1 home draw against
West Ham United on Nov. 27,
leading to a touchline ban. On the
day of the incident, the United
manager had not spoken about the
incident, sending his assistant Rui
Faria to the postmatch news
conference instead.
He said:

"First of all, it was a rubber
bottle. Secondly, I am not so
powerful to kick the bottle and the
bottle kills somebody in the stands.

"But I know that I can't do that.
When [Anthony] Taylor and
[Jonathan] Moss [the officials who
dismissed Mourinho] came to me, I
didn't even complain. I just
apologised and I walked away. I
know that there is nothing to
complain about."
Mourinho also denied that there is
unhappiness within his squad
about the decision to schedule an
afternoon training session on
Christmas Day.
The Portuguese said:

"We have to
train. We play on the 26th [at home
against Sunderland], so we have to
train on the 25th -- in my idea, and
for my staff, it is the correct thing to
do.

"The players know it is the correct
thing to do. It's not true that
everybody is upset with it. It's not
true that everyone that works at
Old Trafford is very upset with me.

"We come just by ourselves -- a
couple of people just to support our
light training session -- and then we
go to the hotel and we prepare for
the Sunderland match."
Looking ahead to the next calendar
year, he added: "2017 will be better
than 2016. I think we are really
together. There is a sense of unity
between us and the fans. I'm loving
a lot that feeling."

Tekno Disqualified from 2016 Headies Next Rated award

MMMG act, Tekno has been disqualified
from the 2016 Headies ‘Next Rated’ award
category. It was the only category the 24-
year-old singer was nominated in.
According to reliable information obtained
by Thenetng, the jury took the decision to
withdraw his nomination because he failed
to participate in all of the required activities
by organisers leading up to the event.
Official e-mails between the organisers and
the singer’s reps confirm all nominees for
the category were required to take part in
promotional activities including
photoshoots, interviews and more.
An insider says all other nominees were
available for all the activities.
As a result, Ycee, Aramide, Humblesmith
and Mr. Eazi will now compete for the prize
without the ‘Pana’ hitmaker.
The award ceremony will take place
tomorrow, December 22, at Eko Convention
Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Alexis Sanchez rejects Arsenal's £180K-a- week deal as contract talks continue

Alexis Sanchez who currently earns
£130K weekly is holding out for a
vastly improved deal of of £250K a
week and has rejected an offer of
£180K weekly. The prolific attacker
is central to the Gunners' interest
and the club is desperate to tie him
down to a long term deal. They are
however hesitant to meet his huge
demands but remain hopeful a deal
can be struck.
In contrast to Sanchez’s talks, there
is a growing confidence at the
Emirates that Ozil, 28, will sign a
new deal. Wenger is adamant
Sanchez and Mesut Ozil — who is
also entering the final 18 months of
his deal — will not be sold even if
they have not penned fresh terms.

Yaya Toure handed 18-month driving ban sentence for drunk driving

Manchester City and Ivory Coast
player, Yaya Toure has been
handed an 18-month driving ban
and a £54,000 fine after he was
caught driving under the influence.
His blood alcohol level was more
than twice the legal limit.
Appearing at Barkingside
Magistrates' Court, the player did
not contest the charge but insisted
he wanted to make the judge aware
any alcohol consumption was
unintentional.
The 33-year-old said he was at a
party with friends and was drinking
Diet Coke from a jug, which he later
found out had brandy in it.
However a judge said it was
'inconceivable' he did not know he
was drinking and banned him from
driving for 18 months and fined him
£54,000.
He was pulled over at 11.15pm
after police thought he was
exceeding the 30mph speed limit in
his £80,000 Audi RS6. Toure told the
court he felt tired but did not know
he was drunk.

Judge Gary Lucie said:
'You say you were at a party and
thought you were drinking Diet
Coke but you accepted it tasted
different to how it usually does. In
fact you were drinking brandy and
coke.
'It appears to me that whilst you
may not have knowingly
consumed alcohol it should have
been clear to you that you were in
fact drinking alcohol at some
point before you took the decision
to drive.
'The reading is a high one and it is
inconceivable that you were
unaware of having consumed
alcohol. You were right, in my
view, not to pursue any argument
with regard to special reasons.'
Along with the £54,000 fine, District
Judge Lucie also ordered Toure to
pay a victim surcharge of £170 and
costs of £85.

He said:
'I give you full credit for pleading
guilty - the fine would have been
£81,000 but is reduced by a full
one third to £54,000, a statutory
surcharge of £170 and costs of
£85.
Toure who is a devout Muslim
released a statement explaining his
side of the story given that he does
not drink alcohol because of his
faith.
'Over the last two weeks there has
been some confusion as to why I
was charged with drink driving, as
it is well known that I am a
Muslim and do not drink. 'I have
always refused alcohol. Anyone
who knows me or follows football
will have seen me refuse
champagne for Man of the Match
performances because of my
commitment to my religion.
'The matter has now been
resolved in court on Monday. As I
was above the permitted limit
when tested on the night, I
decided not to challenge the
charge. However, it was important
to me that I told the court that I
had not intentionally consumed
alcohol. The judge in his
sentencing remarks accepted that
I had not been intentionally
drinking.
'Drink driving is a serious crime
and even though I was not
intentionally consuming alcohol I
accept the ban and fine and I
would like to apologise for this
situation. I would also like to
thank my family, the management
and staff at Manchester City, my
legal team and the fans for the
support they have given me
during this difficult time.'

True story of the boy who was sealed in a wall in Ondo state

Last week, a boy who was
reportedly 12 years old, who was
sealed in the wall of a house in
Ondo state was rescued. Several
reports emerged as to how he
ended up inside the wall of the
house which looked old and
dilapidated, none of which made
much sense. However, Channels TV
crew visited the sight of the
incident to find out what the people
in the town really knew about the
boy and the weird incident. The boy
was identified as Aduragbemi Saka.
According to Channels TV, the
house where the boy was found is
located at 3B Akinfemisoye Street,
Oduduwa Area in New Town, Ondo
State.
The owner of the house
reportedly travelled out of the
country several years ago, so wasn't
at the location of the incident when
it happened, but the building was
being occupied by students of
Adeyemi College of Education.
According to residents of the area
who knew the boy, he lived with his
grandmother and is mentally
challenged. They said he ran away
from his grandmother as she was
taking him to Church for healing
and that he probably fell into a little
space between the walls of the
house and a food canteen next to it,
by accident.
Residents said they heard a voice
talking within the wall saying that
he was Judas Iscariot and that he
was the one who killed Jesus.
They said they initially ignored the
voice, but then the next day , they
heard the voice within the wall
singing so they contacted the Police
before they broke the wall and
rescued him.
Prophetess Dorcas Adebayo who
was the one healing the boy
explained in Yoruba language that
the grandmother brought the boy
for healing but later took him away
from the church.
After the boy was rescued, he was
taken to his Grandmother, a little
boy interviewed by Channels TV
said Aduragbemi was taken to State
Specialist Hospital in town.
Hospital sources confirmed that the
boy had been admitted but had
since been discharged.

CRISTIANO RONALDO WINS 2016 BALLON D’OR

The prolific forward has
been recognised for firing
Real Madrid to
Champions League glory
before then lifting the
European Championship
with Portugal
Cristiano Ronaldo has
beaten off competition
from the likes of Lionel
Messi and Antoine
Griezmann to claim his
fourth Ballon d'Or.
The prolific Portuguese,
who previously lifted the
prestigious prize in 2008,
2013 and 2014, has
enjoyed arguably the
most successful year of
his illustrious career,
winning the Champions
League with Real Madrid
before captaining his
country to European
Championship glory in
France.
Messi, who boasts a
record five Ballons d'Or,
helped Barcelona win a
domestic double last
season but his dream of
leading Argentina to a
major international title
was dashed by a penalty-
shootout loss to Chile in
the final of the Copa
America.
As for Griezmann, the 24-
year-old attacker fired
both Atletico Madrid and
France to the finals of the
Champions League and
Euro 2016, respectively,
but he suffered the agony
of defeat on both
occasions.
Ronaldo, by contrast,
tasted nothing but
success over the summer
by converting the
winning spot-kick in
Real's 11th European Cup
triumph, in May, and
then cheer-leading the
Seleccao to victory over
France in Paris just over
six weeks later.
With the 31-year-old
having already finished
top of the Goal 50 and
now claimed another
Ballon d'Or, he is set to
complete a hat-trick of
individual honours for
2016 when FIFA
announces the winner of
its Best Player award in
January.

Another Sad Story! Female Corper Mysteriously Bleeds To Death

Few hours after a female National Youth
Service Corps Member passed away in
Kano before the end of the 3 weeks
orientation programme, another female
corps member has died at the Bayelsa
Camp.
¤
Reports gathered that the 27-year-old
corper identified as Elechi Chiyerom was
confirmed dead on Tuesday after bleeding
and vomiting on arrival at the camp at
Kaiama, Kolokuma-Opokuma Local
Government Area of the state.
Chiyerom who died in a mysterious
circumstance was said to be a graduate of
the Ignatius Azuru University of Education,
Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Few of the corps members who spoke with
newsmen claimed the deceased on arrival at
the camp last Thursday looked “terribly
sick” and could not participate in some
opening sessions at the camp while some
officials of NYSC claimed that the
development was a case of “non-
disclosure” of te state of health by the corps
member.
It was also learnt that a search on her hostel
section showed signs of excessive bleeding
with her clothing and sanitary pads soaked
in blood.
A source, who spoke on condition of
anonymity with Punch said, “The doctor at
the NYSC camp’s clinic immediately
referred her to the state-owned Diette-Koki
Memorial Hospital in the Opolo area of
Yenagoa, the state capital, where she was
confirmed dead.”
