Barcelona and Lionel Messi could play in the English league if Catalunya gains independence from Spain - Sports minister says

Ahead of a very important referendum set to be staged on
Sunday which will give the right to Catalunya to be
recognised as a sovereign nation independent of Spain, the
region's Sports minister has stated that Barcelona, along
with Girona and Espanyol could join the English premier
league, Italian league or start up their own league if they
gain independence from Spain just the same way Welsh and
Monaco clubs are allowed to play in the Epl and French
league respectively.

Catalans, Barca player, Gerard Pique a very vocal member,
have decided to stage the referendum this weekend even
though the Spanish government has seized ballot boxes,
claimed the voting will never happen and called the process
'Illegal'.
Gerard Figueras, the Catalunya sports minister, believes
that there are plenty of decisions to make when they gain
independence from Spain
"Elite clubs would choose between challenging in a Catalan
league or in a foreign league," Figueras told Goal.com
"In the case of independence, Catalan teams in La Liga –
Barcelona, Espanyol and Girona – will have to decide where
they want to play: in the Spanish league or a neighbouring
country like Italy, France or the Premier League."

“Now in Spain there teams from other countries who play in
national leagues: clubs from Andorra in football and
basketball. Monaco play in France, in England Welsh clubs. I
don't think that UEFA has anything against seeing another
club play in a different league from their country.”
The leadership of Spain's La Liga reacting to Figueras'
statement has warned the Catalans that if they succeed with
their independence agitation they won't be able to play in
the La Liga again, but he hopes it doesn't come to that.
Liga president Javier Tebas said: “In sport, it isn't a la carte
and things must be clearly stated. It isn't easy to have an
agreement and study Spanish legislation but if they [the
Catalan clubs] do get that, then they will not be able to play
in Spain's La Liga, but I hope it doesn't come to that."

Ex-Chelsea doctor, Eva Carniero reveals her football hatred after Jose Mourinho beef

Remember Eva Carniero, the former Chelsea football club
doctor who fell out with Jose Mourinho in 2015 following
her treatment of player, Eden Hazard during a match?
The doctor has now come out after a long silence to reveal
that she felt disillusioned with football after her incident with
Jose Mourinho and court case with Chelsea, and that she
has rejected so many football offers after she left the club.

Carniero, 44, was publicly criticised by then Chelsea boss
Mourinho, for treating Eden Hazard on the pitch during a
match against Swansea on the first day of the 2015-16
season. The tension and problems that followed ended with
a settlement in her favour in the middle of an employment
tribunal, where she claimed constructive dismissal.
'If I am honest I found it hard to watch football for a year,'
she told L'Equipe. 'The 2016 Champions League final
(between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid) was the only
game I was able to sit and watch last year.

'I dealt with the period as well as I could. It was a shock at
a time I should have been happy because I was about to
marry my husband, go on honeymoon and enjoy our new
home. One day I came home and said "I have to resign".'
She also had a warning for clubs who put their players life
at risk all in the name of entertainment.
'Footballers cannot be modern gladiators, they cannot be
fed to and eaten by lions in the name of entertainment at
whatever cost to their life, their career and their future,' she
said.
'I fiercely believed and passionately fought for the teams and
managers I have worked for and this leads to the best work,'
she said.
'But I am disillusioned that football does not seem to want
to improve itself or learn from its mistakes.'

IT'S JUST A GAME Fifa 18 player ratings: Cristiano Ronaldo is number one followed by Lionel Messi and Neymar

CRISTIANO RONALDO has been ranked number one in
FIFA18 ratings, on the back of leading Portugal to Euro
2016 victory and Real Madrid to become champions of
Europe.
Many fans were disgruntled that he beat Lionel Messi, yet
few have jumped to the defence of the man who set PSG
back £200million this summer occupying third place.
EA Sports revealed their top rated players this evening and
the players that occupy the top three positions will not
come as a surprise, as they’re also the ones demanding
the big bucks.
Just one Ialian, French and English club lay claim to a
player in the top ten rankings, whereas Real Madrid boast
the most with three players sitting comfortably in the top
ten.
European talent makes up six out of the ten spots, while
players from South America fill the remaining four.
EA Sports were hounded on twitter with many shocked to
see Ronaldo occupying top spot, despite winning the Uefa
Best Player in Eruope just one month ago.
Since 2008 both Ronaldo and Messi have vied for the
Ballon d’Or and fans argued that it was Messi that should
be sitting ahead of him and that the rating should not be
down to the trophies that Ronaldo helped his club and
country win.

Passengers miraculously survive as car fails break and summersaults on Lekki-Ikoyi bridge

An accident involving a blue Toyota Corolla and a silver
Nissan Xterra occurred today on the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge but
passengers in both cars miraculously survived with minor
injuries.
According to witnesses, the silver suv was speeding along
the bridge shortly after exiting the toll gate, when it failed
break, hit the Toyota Corolla in front of it, and
summersaulted.
The Nissan, driven by a uniformed soldier, had eight
occupants, while the Toyota reportedly had four occupants.
The soldier had a cut on his forehead and it was bleeding. A
female passenger sat at the scene, too weak to move, and
complained of pain. Her jaw was visibly swollen but,
otherwise, there were no injuries on her body. Other
passengers seemed OK but shocked.
Federal Road Safety officials were on ground to assist the
victims while they waited for Emergency Services to arrive.

Friends Like Know Other

We all know, a true friend is hard to find. So when you
do find one, hang on tight! It also doesn't hurt to let
your best friends know every now and then just how
much they mean to you.

Childhood friends. School friends. Neighborhood friends.
College friends. Work friends. Best friends. Boyfriends.
Girlfriends.
We work our entire lives building friendships. From
preschool, where we all learn that "it takes a friend to
make a friend," through adulthood, where we mingle at
bars and water coolers, we crave closeness with other
human beings.
We just need to know that someone out there "gets us."
Whether we have a small group of close friends or an
expanded group of personalities, each of our
friendships brings something new to our lives, inspiring us
to see the world a totally different way, giving us a new
shoulder to lean on, and a new cheerleader to root us on.
Friendships come in all sorts of forms: serious ones, like
the college friend you discuss politics with, silly ones, like
the squad you do Halloween with, chill ones, like your wine
and Netflix buddy. Some friendships even turn into
something more.
Each friendship offers something totally unique — and
irreplaceable. Each friendship ultimately makes us who we
are.
This is why we spend so much time cultivating these
relationships and learning how to be a good friend. This is
why we show up after breakups, at graduations, at
weddings, and at funerals. This is why near or far, our
friends hold a special place in our hearts forever.

ATM WITHOUT CARD

How to withraw money from an ATM without
a card
.
biko…No. Get your mind off it.
Nobody is trying to corrupt you here. And I’m definitely not
trying to teach you how to hack into an ATM machine. This
post is entirely about something legit: withdrawing your
money from an ATM even if you forgot your ATM card at
home or can’t find it at that moment.
If you’re like me, you probably leave things behind a lot –
especially ATM card. Or maybe you just assume that you
have them with you only to find out you didn’t when you
need them. It’s why some of us take some “vex money”
with us to avoid embarrassment,
By now, you’re probably asking: “so after all the rant,
what’s the way out?”
Simple. # Paycode.
Yes, you read that right: You. Can. Withdraw. Cash. From.
The. ATM. Without. Your. ATM. card.
It sounds a bit crazy, but I’ll break it down. It’s kuku why
I’m here.
So here’s how it works:
Let’s say you’re a GTBank customer and want to withdraw
at the ATM, just dial *737*13* on your phone, type the
amount you want to withdraw, press # then send.
A code and a cash-out PIN will be generated for you. You’ll
use the Cash-out PIN you chose while generating the
Paycode to withdraw your money at the ATM.
To use the Paycode at the ATM, press any key or ‘ENTER’
on the ATM, select PAYCODE CASHOUT and follow the
prompt to withdraw your cash.
It’s that simple.
.
If your bank is currently not on the list, not to
worry, I hear more banks will be added soon.
Ehen , lest I forget, besides using your bank’s
USSD, you can also generate a Paycode using your
bank’s internet banking platform, their mobile
app, Verve World website and Verve World
mobile app too.
So there you have it. An easy and legit way to pay
for stuff and withdraw money without your ATM
card.
No more unnecessary embarrassment, no more
getting stranded every time, no more losing your
ATM card and rushing to the bank to block it.
Now you can just keep it at home, resting under
your pillow. All you need to carry out your
transaction is your phone.
If you’d love to know about Paycode, just click
here.
.
Quote of the day:
“’Vex money’ might not be enough, wallet and
ATM card might be nowhere in sight, you may
start feeling like you’re stranded, but blessed are
you if you have your Paycode.”
Happy Thursday!!

Cristiano Ronaldo scored
twice as Real Madrid
defeated 10-man
Juventus 4-1 in Cardiff to
retain their Champions
League crown.
Madrid became the first
team in the Champions
League era to
successfully defend the
trophy with their
sixth triumph in the
competition - and 12th
when you include it in its
former guise of the
European Cup - three of
those victories coming in
the last four years.
A thrilling first half saw
Ronaldo put Madrid
ahead, becoming the first
player to score in three
different Champions
League finals in the
process.
Mario Mandzukic
equalised for Juventus
with a spectacular
overhead kick that will
live long in the memory.
But Madrid dominated
the second half as Juve
collapsed, Casemiro
scoring with the help of a
huge deflection before
Ronaldo made sure of
the victory from close-
range, ensuring he
finishes above Lionel
Messi as the
competition's top scorer
in the process.
Any hopes of a Juventus
comeback were ended
when substitute Juan
Cuadrado was sent off 18
minutes after coming on,
the winger receiving a
second yellow for a clash
with Sergio Ramos,
before Madrid substitute
Marco Asensio put the
icing on the cake in the
last minute.
Having also secured
LaLiga glory, the win
seals a famous double for
Zinedine Zidane in his
first full season at the
helm, with Madrid the
first side since AC Milan
in 1990 to win back-to-
back European crowns.
Juventus, who had been
seeking a treble after
winning Serie A and the
Coppa Italia, have now
lost five straight finals
since last tasting
continental success back
in 1996, including two of
the last three, having also
lost to Barcelona in
Berlin two years ago.

Mother successfully donates womb to her daughter in India's first womb transfer

A 43-year-old mother has
successfully donated her womb to
her 21-year-old daughter, who was
born without a uterus, with the
hopes that her child can experience
childbirth. The surgery was the first
of its kind in India and was
performed by a team of doctors at
Pune's Galaxy Care Hospital in the
city of Pune in south-west India.
Ther womb transfer took place
yesterday, led by the hospital's
medical director, Dr. Shailesh
Puntambekar. It lasted for nine and
a half hours in total and both
mother and daughter are fine and
in recovery. The 21-year-old will
have to wait for one year to give her
body enough time to heal and
adjust to the new uterus before she
considers trying to get pregnant via
in-vitro fertilization (IVF). She is
currently under observation and
will be kept in Intensive Care Unit
for some days
¤
"The patient was born without a
uterus and she wanted to have her
own baby and was not ready for
adoption or surrogacy. Since they
knew about the uterus transplant,
they approached us and accepted
the surgery option," Dr Shailesh
Puntambekar said. "Fortunately, her
mother was found to be a medically
suitable uterus donor for her."
¤
He added: "The procedure is
difficult because multiple large
arteries are to be joined there, and
veins that are small and short. It is
technically very tough."
According to Dr. Mats Brännström,
a professor of obstetrics and
gynaecology at Sweden's University
of Gothenburg, only six babies have
ever been delivered from a uterus
transplant - two from the same
mother. It remains to be seen
whether India's first transplant will
result in a birth though Dr.
Puntambekar said he felt "relaxed
and confident" that it will happen
for his patient.

VIO permanently banned from Lagos roads - Govenor Ambode

Lagos State Governor, Mr.
Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday put
the uncertainty concerning the
absence of Vehicle Inspection
Officers (VIO) on Lagos roads to rest
once and for all, stating
categorically that he has asked
them to stay off the roads
permanently.
Governor Ambode, who said this at
the commissioning of Pedestrian
Bridges, Laybys and Slip Road at
Ojodu Berger, also urged the
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to
limit its operations to the fringes
and highways and stay clear from
the main streets of the State.
He said the decisions were in line
with his administration’s resolve to
ensure free flow of traffic across the
State, noting that their activities
were contributing to traffic
congestion on Lagos roads. The
Governor said,
¤
“Distinguished ladies
and gentlemen, let me use this
opportunity to reiterate that Vehicle
Inspection Officers (VIO) have been
asked to stay off our roads
permanently.
¤
“We also advice the Federal Road
Safety Corps to stay on the fringes
and highways and not on the main
streets of Lagos. It has become
evident that these agencies
contribute to the traffic challenges
on our roads.”
¤
He said as an alternative, the State
Government would employ
technology to track and monitor
vehicle registration and MOT
certifications and de-emphasise
impoundment of vehicles on the
roads. Speaking on the
interventions in Ojodu Berger,
Governor Ambode said his
administration at inception,
identified the axis as one of the
major traffic flashpoints that
required urgent attention, adding
that the decision was informed by
the strategic importance of this axis
being a major gateway into the
State.
¤
“What we set out to achieve with
this project was to ensure smooth
flow of traffic along the express,
safeguard the lives of our people
who had to run across the express
and project the image of a truly
global city to our visitors. Today, we
are delighted that we have not only
succeeded in transforming the
landscape of this axis but with the
slip road, lay bys and pedestrian
bridge, we have given a new and
pleasant experience to all entering
and exiting our State.
¤
“This project is the product of our
innovative team of engineers,
architects and town planners who
have worked hard to create an
innovative solution to tackle the
challenges of this axis. I say a big
thank you to the staff of the Lagos
State Ministry of Works and the
contractors – CCECC Nigeria Limited
for a job well done,” he said.
To improve on the project,
Governor Ambode said a food court
would be built where people can
relax before climbing the
pedestrian bridge, as well as an
interstate bus terminal within the
Ojodu Berger axis for buses coming
from outside Lagos to drop and
load passengers, while intercity
transportation system would move
commuters within the city. Besides,
the Governor assured that his
traffic interventions would not only
stop at the Ojodu Berger axis, but
would be an ongoing process to
create solutions to traffic
congestion in every part of the
State.
¤
“If your neighbourhood or
community is experiencing traffic
challenges, be rest assured that we
will soon be there. We will always
ensure that promises made are
promises kept. We will continue to
rely on the support of all segments
of the population for regular tax
payments, obeying the rule of law
and protection of public
infrastructure. That is the only way
we can progress and achieve our
goal of being one of the world’s top
centres for business, entertainment
and leisure,” he said.
While alluding to the fact that the
State has lived up to its reputation
as a land of possibilities, Governor
Ambode also expressed confidence
that the future prospects of the
State was promising and that the
journey of the next fifty years has
commenced on a very sound and
solid footing. Earlier, in his opening
remarks, the State’s Commissioner
for Waterfront Infrastructure
Development, Engr. Adebowale
Akinsanya said the project was
conceived by the State Government
as a response to the yearnings of
the people of Ojodu Berger
Community for an improved,
efficient and grid lock free road
network, as well as the need to
preserve the sanctity of life of
Lagosians who hitherto were
endangered by the need to cross
the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan
Expressway.
Akinsanya, who is also overseeing
the Ministry of Works and
Infrastructure, gave the scope of
the project to include 98m
pedestrian bridges with
illumination, 150m length lay-bys
on both sides of the expressway,
500m length of retaining wall with
varying height from 3.5m to 7m and
two multi-by bus park/bus lay-bys
on Ogunnusi road with public
convenience.
Other scope of the project included
650m slip road connecting traffic
outward the expressway to Omole/
Olowora Junction, 700m Ogunnusi/
Wakatiadura dual road from Kosoko
road junction to the expressway,
250m PWC Road to the expressway,
street lighting on all the roads and
multi-bay bus parks, signalization of
all junctions, pedestrian walkway
and drainage infrastructure, among
others.

Chelsea are the new Premier League champions after beating West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at The Hawthorns.

Forgotten
man Michy
Batshuayi
was the
unlikely
goalscoring hero as The
Blues snatched a late victory
over The Baggies.
West Bromwich Albion
started the match well and
Salomon Rondon’s looping
header troubled Blues
keeper Thibaut Courtois early
on.
Pedro went close early in the
match on three occasions
while defenders Gary Cahill
and Cesar Azpilicueta also
saw efforts go just wide.
The Blues
were
inches
away from
taking the
lead 20
minutes
into the
contest but Cahill’s fizzing
effort was bravely blocked by
Gareth McAuley.
Cesc Fabregas struck another
Chelsea effort wide as the
first half ended goalless with
very few clear goalscoring
chances being produced.
The second half started with
Pedro again worrying home
keeper Ben Foster but the
player saw another shot go
wide while Diego Costa
struggled to get off a shot as
he was tightly marked by the
home defence. Moses then
forced a superb low save
from Foster with a strike
across goal before Fabregas
went agonisingly close to
opening the scoring on two
occasions.
Chelsea had a real scare with
a little over 15 minutes
remaining when Rondon beat
The Blues defence before
firing high and wide after a
45 yard run on goal. Albion
continued to search for a
goal which would upset the
party and Nacer Chadli
clipped a chance wide as
Chelsea rode their luck.
With just eight minutes
remaining on the clock,
Chelsea finally broke the
deadlock when Azpilicueta
cut the ball back to
substitute Batshuayi who
beat Foster from six yards.
There was no response from
West Bromwich Albion and
Batshuayi proved to be the
unlikely hero as Chelsea
went on to become Premier
League champions.

Arsenal 2-0 Man U. (Arsene Wenger wins Mourinho for first time in the league as Gunners move to the cusp of top four)

It had to take a Granit Xhaka effort
and a former Man U player, Danny
Welbeck's shock header for
coaching veteran, Arsene Wenger to
register his first career win over
rival, Jose Mourinho in the premier
league on Sunday evening.
Jose Mourinho, started with Chris
Smalling, Phil Jones, players that
have been injured for almost two
months to start in the center of the
defence while Wayne Rooney was
brought back into the fold alongside
Juan Mata and young debutant Axel
Tuanzebe. Wenger started with
Danny Welbeck, Mesut Ozil and
Alexis Sanchez upfront while the
likes of Alex Iwobi, Giroud and Theo
Walcott had to settle for a spot on
the bench.
Swiss international, Granit Xhaka
fired from 30 yards out in the
second half and a nasty deflection
by Ander Herrera saw the ball
overtake De Gea- whose future as
each second passes by, seems to lie
more in Madrid than in
Manchester.
And shockingly within two minutes,
Mancunian, Danny Welbeck headed
home from a Alex Oxlade-
Chamberlain cross to give them all
three points despite a late fight
back from Jose Mourinho's side.
Wenger with this win, also broke
another record, it was the first time
Man U lost in the league after the
4-0 drubbing by Chelsea in October
2016, and Mourinho, hopeful of
winning the Europa league ,
maybe... just maybe, might rue this
missed opportunity to close up on
the champions league spots. Could
Wenger resign if Arsenal don't make
the top four? Only time can tell!

BREAKING!!! IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu Rejects Bail

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the
Indigenous People of Biafra
(IPOB), has rejected the bail
granted him by Binta Nyako,
justice of the federal high court,
Abuja.
Nyako had granted Kanu bail on
stringent terms on Tuesday. One
of the conditions is that he must
present a Jewish leader as
surety.
But a family source told
TheCable that the IPOB leader
had rejected the order for his
conditional release.
¤
“Nnamdi Kanu has said he will
not accept the bail until other
persons he was charged
alongside are granted bail as
well,” the source said.

“You know how he is. That is his
decision.”
However, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Kanu’s
lawyer, said his client had not
rejected the bail.
TheCable understands that
Israel and Sally Kanu, the IPOB
leader’s parents, are not
satisfied with the conditions
given for the release of their
son, hence they have called for
his unconditional release.
Kanu alongside other three
accused persons – Chidiebere
Onwudiwe, Benjamin
Madubugwu and David
Nwawuisi – are facing trial for
alleged treasonable felony.
Nyako had quashed six of the
11-count charges filed against
them. But she sustained the rest
which bordered on treason.
Kanu has been in Kuje prisons,
Abuja since 2015.
There were wild celebrations in
the south-east at the news of
Kanu securing bail. But the
celebrations were punctured
when the conditions of his
release became clear.
Ayo Fayose, Ekiti state governor,
and Femi Fani-Kayode were
among those who came to show
solidarity with the IPOB leader
at the court on Tuesday.

Willian and Hazard deliver for Conte after Chelsea boss' FA Cup gamble

Three quick thoughts
from Chelsea 4-2 Tottenham in the
FA Cup semifinals at Wembley on
Saturday.

1. Hazard makes the difference
for Chelsea

Antonio Conte's gamble to leave
Eden Hazard and Diego Costa on
the bench paid off as Chelsea beat
Tottenham 4-2 in a compelling FA
Cup semifinal.
Hazard came off the bench with
half an hour to go, and his
compelling cameo changed the
game. He scored the goal that sent
Chelsea in front for the third time
and then set up Nemanja Matic to
score the fourth.
Chelsea go into next month's FA
Cup final with a chance to win the
Double. Hazard and Costa will also
be relatively fresh for their team's
Premier League match against
Southampton on Tuesday, where a
victory would bring the title a step
closer.
Willian gave Conte's team the lead
twice in the first half. Harry Kane
and Dele Alli both leveled with
brilliant goals, but Hazard had the
last word.
Chelsea started well. Nathan Ake, in
for Gary Cahill, made a strong
challenge on Kane in the fourth
minute, and the Blues broke at
pace. Pedro stormed clear and was
almost in shooting position when
Toby Alderweireld slid across and
scythed the Spaniard down. The
Spurs centre-half was shown a
yellow card, but further
punishment awaited Tottenham.
Willian curled the ball over the wall
and into the far corner of Hugo
Lloris' goal. The goalkeeper was
unexpectedly slow into his dive and
perhaps should have done better.
Chelsea's pace troubled Tottenham.
Pedro and Willian were eager to run
with the ball at defenders and
Michy Batshuayi's movement
presented a different set of
problems for the centre-backs than
they were expecting to encounter
with Costa. The 23-year-old does
not have Costa's power, though.
The Belgian should have doubled
the score just before the quarter
hour, but his unopposed header
was weak, and Lloris saved easily
this time.
Chelsea were left to rue the miss
three minutes later when
Tottenham forced a corner. David
Luiz headed the set piece clear, but
all 11 Chelsea players were deep in
the penalty area. They were too
deep. Spurs were allowed to work
the ball out wide on the right, and
Christian Eriksen was given time to
fire in a cross. It was not the best
effort by the Dane, but Kane dived
low and glanced the ball into the far
corner. It was a magnificent,
unstoppable piece of improvisation
from an expert goal scorer.
But just as Spurs were beginning to
dominate, Son Heung-Min -- playing
wing-back -- made a huge mistake.
Victor Moses charged into the area
and Son slid across to try to
intercept the ball. Moses saw him
coming and waited for Son to miss
the ball before dragging his legs to
let the Tottenham player make
contact. Moses could have easily
avoided going down, but the chance
to be awarded a penalty was too
good to miss. Martin Atkinson, the
referee, took a long look at the
incident, checked with his assistant
and pointed to the spot. Tottenham
protested, but Willian expertly sent
Lloris the wrong way to put Chelsea
back into the lead.
Alli had struggled to make an
impact in the first half, but he
sprung to life in six minutes into
the second period, powering down
the inside left channel and flicking
the ball into the net from Eriksen's
fine pass. The goal showed all the
midfielder's attributes: power,
anticipation and a deadly finish.
Shortly afterwards, just on the
hour, came the inevitable double
substitution. Hazard and Costa
arrived. The game changed in an
instant.
Tottenham continued to swarm
forward and were looking the likely
winners, but Hazard was always
going to have the last word. The
Belgian was lurking on the edge of
the area for a rare Chelsea corner
and was in the perfect position
when a headed clearance dropped
out of the air. Hazard took one
exquisite touch that set up the ball
perfectly and then rifled his shot
into the far corner. Conte's team
were in front with one injection of
class.
Matic made it safe for Chelsea with
10 minutes remaining with a
splendid shot from 25 yards after
Hazard teed him up. The Belgian
went on a mazy run inside the box
before rolling the ball to the
midfielder, whose shot gave Lloris
no chance and made sure Chelsea
reached the final.
Hazard made all the difference.

2. Conte gamble pays off as
Willian strikes

Conte took a huge gamble and it
looked for a long time like it had
gone awry. Batshuayi led the line in
Costa's absence with Willian
operating in the areas the Belgian
usually patrols.
It was not quite a makeshift
Chelsea side, but it was some way
from Conte's strongest XI. Against
the team who have emerged as
Chelsea's only serious challengers
in the Premier League, it was a bold
move.
There has been rumbling
discontent with Costa's attitude
behind the scenes since interest in
a move to China emerged in
January. It was hardly a surprise
that the striker had fallen out with
his manager. Even so, if omitting
Hazard was Conte's attempt to
prioritise the league, it could have
had dangerous consequences.
Defeat to Spurs, who are despised
at Stamford Bridge, would linger
longer in the supporters' memories
than even winning the title.
Batshuayi is some way from the
finished article. Apart from the first-
half header he wasted, he had little
impact on the game. He worked
hard but offered little else. It was a
matter of time before Costa
replaced him.
Willian was different. His quickness
off the mark and tendency to run
into dangerous areas made him
one of Chelsea's better performers.
It was a surprise when he was
withdrawn for Hazard. The Brazilian
went straight down the tunnel and
may have picked up a knock. The
man who bailed his manager out,
though, was Hazard. His influence
changed the match completely.
Conte will think twice about leaving
him out again.

3. Spurs' Wembley woe

Playing at Wembley has been
problematic for Spurs. They lost two
out of three Champions League
group games, winning only the
meaningless match against CSKA
Moscow, and drew their Europa
League game against Gent.
Mauricio Pochettino's side are
expected to use the stadium as
their home ground in next year's
Premier League, and an inability to
win games at the venue would
bring the progression of
Tottenham's young team to a
juddering halt.
Losing another game here when
they were on top for so long will
have a serious impact on their
confidence for next season.
Their tendency to lose discipline
was highlighted by Son's wild
sliding challenge that gave away the
penalty. Pochettino seemed to
accept that the Son experiment had
failed when he replaced him with
Kyle Walker after 67 minutes.
With Hazard on the pitch it made
sense to shore up the right-back
position with Kieran Trippier
switching to the left. At the time of
the switch, Spurs were still on top
but in a matter of minutes they fell
apart.
Once Hazard put Chelsea in front,
Tottenham's Wembley demons
seemed to reappear. Pochettino
has all summer to fix things, but the
team's performances in this
stadium do not bode well for next
season.

substitution. Hazard and Costa
arrived. The game changed in an
instant.
Tottenham continued to swarm
forward and were looking the likely
winners, but Hazard was always
going to have the last word. The
Belgian was lurking on the edge of
the area for a rare Chelsea corner
and was in the perfect position
when a headed clearance dropped
out of the air. Hazard took one
exquisite touch that set up the ball
perfectly and then rifled his shot
into the far corner. Conte's team
were in front with one injection of
class.
Matic made it safe for Chelsea with
10 minutes remaining with a
splendid shot from 25 yards after
Hazard teed him up. The Belgian
went on a mazy run inside the box
before rolling the ball to the
midfielder, whose shot gave Lloris
no chance and made sure Chelsea
reached the final.
Hazard made all the difference.

2. Conte gamble pays off as
Willian strikes

Conte took a huge gamble and it
looked for a long time like it had
gone awry. Batshuayi led the line in
Costa's absence with Willian
operating in the areas the Belgian
usually patrols.
It was not quite a makeshift
Chelsea side, but it was some way
from Conte's strongest XI. Against
the team who have emerged as
Chelsea's only serious challengers
in the Premier League, it was a bold
move.
There has been rumbling
discontent with Costa's attitude
behind the scenes since interest in
a move to China emerged in
January. It was hardly a surprise
that the striker had fallen out with
his manager. Even so, if omitting
Hazard was Conte's attempt to
prioritise the league, it could have
had dangerous consequences.
Defeat to Spurs, who are despised
at Stamford Bridge, would linger
longer in the supporters' memories
than even winning the title.
Batshuayi is some way from the
finished article. Apart from the first-
half header he wasted, he had little
impact on the game. He worked
hard but offered little else. It was a
matter of time before Costa
replaced him.
Willian was different. His quickness
off the mark and tendency to run
into dangerous areas made him
one of Chelsea's better performers.
It was a surprise when he was
withdrawn for Hazard. The Brazilian
went straight down the tunnel and
may have picked up a knock. The
man who bailed his manager out,
though, was Hazard. His influence
changed the match completely.
Conte will think twice about leaving
him out again.

3. Spurs' Wembley woe

Playing at Wembley has been
problematic for Spurs. They lost two
out of three Champions League
group games, winning only the
meaningless match against CSKA
Moscow, and drew their Europa
League game against Gent.
Mauricio Pochettino's side are
expected to use the stadium as
their home ground in next year's
Premier League, and an inability to
win games at the venue would
bring the progression of
Tottenham's young team to a
juddering halt.
Losing another game here when
they were on top for so long will
have a serious impact on their
confidence for next season.
Their tendency to lose discipline
was highlighted by Son's wild
sliding challenge that gave away the
penalty. Pochettino seemed to
accept that the Son experiment had
failed when he replaced him with
Kyle Walker after 67 minutes.
With Hazard on the pitch it made
sense to shore up the right-back
position with Kieran Trippier
switching to the left. At the time of
the switch, Spurs were still on top
but in a matter of minutes they fell
apart.
Once Hazard put Chelsea in front,
Tottenham's Wembley demons
seemed to reappear. Pochettino
has all summer to fix things, but the
team's performances in this
stadium do not bode well for next
season.

I Have No Beef With Olamide – 9ice

Singer 9ice, has opened up on his career,
relationship with former label mate,
Olamide and producer, ID Cabasa.
Speaking with Saturday Beats, 9ice talked
about his hit song Gongo Aso revealing he
never knew it would be that successful.
In his words:
¤
“Although people believe that ‘Gongo Aso’
is my best album, to me, my album,
‘Tradition,’ still remains my best album in
terms of content and lyrics. What you
believe would sell might not sell but it does
not mean that it is not good. I never knew
‘Gongo Aso’ would be a successful album.
In fact, that was not even the title of the
album. The initial title of the album was
‘My dictionary, your diary’; but when the
song became very popular, ID Cabassa
suggested that we make the song the title of
the album. The song, ‘Gongo Aso’ was not
supposed to be part of the album. I had
finished recording the album when the song
came to me and Cabassa said we should
destroy all the promo copies we had made
and promote the song. We promoted it and
the song went viral. It was never planned.”
On his plans to bring home the Gramy as
stated in his Street Credibility track, he said:
¤
“I am still working on bringing the Grammy
to Nigeria. Abraham Lincoln tried several
times before he became the president of the
US while Buhari tried about four times
before he became president. As long as I am
still doing music, I can still get the
Grammy.”
On his relationship with Olamide and ID
Cabasa:
¤
“There is no issue between myself” Olamide
and Reminisce. The reason I was not at one
of Olamide’s concerts was because I was
not in the country and that was the same
reason I missed Reminisce album listening
party. During the last Sallah, I was at
Reminisce’ house and that was where I ate
Sallah meat. It is just that our schedules are
tighter now. I was on Olamide’s first album
and he was on my last album. I have so
many songs with Olamide that are yet to be
released. I also feature in about four songs
with Reminisce that have not yet been
released. I am on his recent album. The only
album Reminisce has pushed out and I was
not there was ‘Baba Afusat’ and that is
because I travelled out of the country. I have
been on all his albums. It is just that I have a
busy schedule now. Imagine if we want to
have a Code Tunes concert as big as all its
artistes are now; don’t you think it will be a
big budget that would require lots of time to
take Olamide out of his terrain, it has to be
worth it for him to come and participate.
Those are some of the factors. It is not as if
someone is fighting or angry with anybody.
There is nothing like that,” 9ice said.

Executive Officer respectively.
The lender also announced the
appointments of Mrs. Yvonne
Isichei as Executive Director as well
as Mrs. Titilayo Tairat Adebiyi and
Mr. Bulus Bunken Dan-Habu- as
Non-Executive Directors.
A statement from the lender’s
Head, Corporate Communications,
Omobolanle Osotule, said the new
board is a transitional governance
arrangement, which follows:
¤
“the successful conclusion of the
divestment of Keystone Bank
Limited by the Asset Management
Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON),
which culminated in the
Completion Meeting of 23 March
2017 and the formal handover of
the bank to the Sigma Golf-
Riverbank Consortium (the
Consortium).”

According to the statement:
¤
“The transitional governance
arrangement, which will take
effect from the 1st of April 2017 is
subject to approval by the Central
Bank of Nigeria. By the 31st of
March 2017, the current board of
the bank (including the MD/CEO,
Mr. Philip Ikeazor) would have
fully disengaged, except for Mr.
Bakare and Mrs. Isichei, who will
continue as part of the
transitional governance board.”
Modibbo started his working career
as a Commercial Officer in the then
Gongola State Civil Service, and
would later join the Gongola State
Investment Company Limited
where he rose to the rank of Senior
Investment Executive.
A 1983 graduate of Business
Administration from the Ahmadu
Bello University, Zaria, Alhaji
Modibbo qualified as a Chartered
Stockbroker in 1991 and was
elected to the Council of The
Nigerian Stock Exchange from 1993
to 1996. He is currently a member
of the Investors Protection Fund

AMCON hands over Keystone Bank to new investors

Following the sale of Keystone Bank
to Sigma Golf-Riverbank
Consortium by the Asset
Management Corporation of Nigeria
(AMCON), the new investors have
finally taken possession with a view
to repositioning the bank
immediately.
A statement from the bank said the
handover took place last Friday
after the Completion Board Meeting
to consummate the acquisition and
pave way for the takeover was held
the previous day (Thursday) with
representatives of Sigma Golf-
Riverbank Consortium (the Buyer),
AMCON (the Seller), Board and
Management of Keystone Bank as
well as the advisers to the buyer
(KPMG Professional Services,
Boston Advisory Services, Giwa
Osagie & Co., Pan-African Capital
Limited) and the Seller (FBN Capital
Limited, Citibank Nigeria Limited,
Banwo & Ighodalo, CrosswrockLaw).
Recall that AMCON had announced
on Tuesday 21stMarch 2017 that
Sigma Golf-Riverbank Consortium
had acquired Keystone Bank
Limited. The Completion Meeting
signified the effective hand-over of
the bank to the buyer and the
commencement of a transition
process that will culminate in the
reconstitution of the Board and
Management of the bank to reflect
the new ownership.
Keystone Bank, formerly Bank PHB,
was taken over by AMCON in 2011
and has been managed by the
AMCON-appointed board and
management which stabilised the
bank over the years to make it
attractive as potential new
investors, who emerged as
preferred bidders after a very
transparent and competitive
bidding process.
Analysts believe that the
emergence of the Sigma Golf-
Riverbank Consortium will bring a
new lease of life to Keystone Bank
with the expected injection of fresh
capital that would position the bank
to play competitively in the industry
and actualize its full potentials.
¤
“In moving the bank forward as a
major player in the industry, the
new investors will be backed up
by a pool of reputable
professionals both currently
within the bank and across the
industry.
¤
“Keystone Bank, therefore,
assures all its stakeholders that
the transition process will
reposition the bank to serve its
customers better, creating
enhanced value for all
stakeholders”, the statement
added.

A total of 193 pupils (meant to turn 9-11 years) fell pregnant between 2014 and 2016 in South Africa

A total of 193 pupils in grades 3, 4
and 5 (the grades in which one is
meant to turn nine to 11) fell
pregnant between 2014 and 2016. If
pregnant school children from
grades 6 and 7 are added, this
number increases to 1 449, reports
The Citizen .
¤
"This information should shock
every South African. Young girls,
most under the legal age of 16,
are having their futures
undermined, likely through being
taken advantage of or abused,"
said Sonja Boshoff, DA MP and
member of the portfolio
committee on basic education.

She added that the DA
would urgently submit further
parliamentary questions to find out
if these girls were under the age of
16 and, if so, whether any charges
had been instituted against those
responsible, as this would be
statutory rape.
¤
“We will also investigate whether
these girls have since returned to
school, following the birth of their
child, what support the school
and the department of basic
education have provided them to
catch up on the syllabus, and
whether counselling and other
emotional support have been
provided,” Boshoff said.

In 2014, 18 357 pupils fell pregnant,
with 15 504 in 2015, and 8 732
pupils last year.
¤
“Although the overall numbers
seem to indicate a drop in school
pregnancies, the department was
not able to provide the statistics
for Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-
Natal.
¤
“Traditionally, these two provinces
account for large numbers of
school pregnancies: a total of 6
477 in 2014, and 5 178 in 2015
combined,” Boshoff said.
“It is vital that Minister of Basic
Education Angie Motshekga
provide these missing numbers as
a matter of urgency so that a
realistic and honest assessment
can be made and solutions can be
found. These young girls cannot
be lost to the system and the
department must follow up to
ensure that they continue to
attend school,” Boshoff said.
¤
“Keeping children in school
should be our major priority if we
are to ensure that every person,
no matter the circumstances of
their birth, are able to live a life
they truly value, filled with
opportunity. This is something the
DA will continue to fight for.”

Jamie Vardy reveals death threats over alleged involvement in Claudio Ranieri’s sacking

Leicester City
striker Jamie
Vardy has
revealed he
received death
threats after it
was alleged by UK
Media outfits that
he played a major
role in the sacking
of former coach
Claudio Ranieri,
barely 9 months
after winning the
club's first
premier league
title.
Leicester City
prior to Ranieiri's
sack were
languishing in the
relegation zone
and the club
owners shockingly
made the
decision to sack
the Italian
manager,
replacing him
with Craig
Shakespeare.
It had been
reported that
senior players
such as Jamie
Vardy and
Schmeichel had
asked the owners
to sack Ranieiri –
but the players
have categorically
denied the claims
And now Jamie
Vardy has
revealed that he
received death
threats from
Leicester fans
over the alleged
gang-up.
In an interview
published by
Guardian UK
newspapers on
Tuesday morning,
Vardy said:
↓↡
“The story is
out there, then
people pick it
up and jump
on it and you’re
getting death
threats about
your family,
kids,
everything,”
Vardy said. “I
try to get on
with it but
when people
are trying to cut
your missus up
while she’s
driving along
with the kids in
the back of the
car it’s not the
best. It’s
happened
plenty of times.
It is terrifying.”
¤
Vardy said the
threats had been
made “on social
media, walking
down the street,
you name it” and
insisted he was
wrongly named as
one of the players
who allegedly
turned against
the manager who
won the first
league
championship in
Leicester’s
history.
He also denied
there was a
problem with the
players and their
former manager.
↓↡
“No, not at all.
Basically if
there was an
issue you went
and did it in the
gaffer’s office,
man to man. Or
you did it on
the tactics
board because
he was happy
for you to come
in and put your
opinion across.
↓↡
“Apparently the
meeting that
got him sacked
I read one story
that said it was
straight after
the Sevilla
game. Absolute
shambles. It
said I was
personally
involved in a
meeting when I
was actually sat
in anti-doping
for three hours.
The stories
were quite
hurtful. A lot of
false
accusations
were being
thrown out
there and
there’s nothing
us, as players,
could do about
it.”
¤
Vardy was also
criticized for not
posting a farewell
message to his
former manager
on his social
media account,
immediately after
his sacking.. But
he has revealed
that he took over
48 hours to post a
social media
message because
'it was very hard'
for him.
↓↡
“I can
understand
what you are
saying but,
personally, my
tweet was
[meant to be]
going out
straightaway,
but I wrote it
that many
times I couldn’t
quite get the
wording right.
You don’t know
what to say. It
was 24 hours
before I did it
but we had just
got back from
Seville. We
were delayed,
landed, then
went straight
home, kids in
the bath and
straight to bed
myself.
↓↡
“It’s hard. Don’t
get me wrong,
what he did for
Leicester was
unbelievable
and nobody
would have
expected that
[title] in a
million years.
We can only
thank him for
that. The way
this season has
gone, players
never seem to
be the ones
who get the
sack. It always
falls on the
manager and
that is what has
happened. We
are all sincerely
gutted that it
did.
↓↡
“I get abuse at
every stadium
that I turn up
at. You are
always going to
get stick from
fans. It is part
and parcel of
football. I’m
one that carries
on and winds
them up a bit.
Do I enjoy it?
Yeah, it’s just
me. I couldn’t
tell you why I
get it, but it’s
part of the
game. I am not
really fussed
about it. It’s
fine by me.”
¤
Vardy also
explained why he
had not chosen to
report the death
threats to the
police. “All that
can happen is
they get banned
on Twitter,” he
said.
↓↡
“People get cut
up but if there’s
no cameras
you’re
screwed.”
